Dad was a stand-up comic and says that the difference of comedy and tragedy is the proximity.
I have been teaching Special Education students in a Queens high school and was very disturbed when these ninth graders started laughing when hearing about a women in a wheelchair who fell over. I was mortified.
Then, that week-end I was at Hamilton College and saw a guy on crutches fall down. It was HYSTERICAL and I felt badly that I was laughing but....
So...stand back a bit. you can't get through the rough times without chuckling.
I highly recommend this blog: http://fakeinterviewswithrealcelebrities.blogspot.com
It uplifts my day and is inspiring me to use more comedy in my own writing. Thanks Wendy. Thanks Alison.
